Stage 1 & 2|An Intermediate Vinyasa and Yin Hatha Yoga Combination with Pam Medina, Founder of The Yoga Lily of Clifton Park
Yin Yang Yoga is a blend of fluid standing yoga poses that loosen the muscles, lubricate the joints, and invigorate your entire system; followed by penetrating stillness through extended holds in yoga poses, that enter the deeper layers of muscles, tendons and fascia. This class begins with setting an intention, becoming conscious of our reason for showing up on the mat. This merges our body, mind, and spirit; making our yoga practice more meaningful.
Yang/Vinyasa Yoga Flow
After our soulful dedication, we begin the Yang yoga portion of our class, with flowing rhythmic Vinyasa yoga movements designed to awaken the body, bring heat to the muscles, hydrate the spine, pump the blood, stir the lymph, lubricate the joints and produce mental alertness.
Yang energy is the Sun side of our being. We focus on enlivening the body with standing yoga postures, embodying action and heat. The warmth and pulsating movements of yang are strong, working on the surface of the muscular layer.
Yin/Hatha Yoga Poses and Techniques
Our vinyasa-style yoga prepares us for the Yin Yoga part of our class, which requires a different kind of strength. It is in Yin yoga where we require the will to be patient, stable, and mindful as we achieve long-lasting flexibility through Yin Hatha yoga techniques. Yin/hatha yoga poses are held for 3-7 minutes and are typically done on the mat. Receiving the yoga poses for longer periods of time allows the muscles time to surrender into the posture, enter the facsia, the dense, tough tissue which surrounds all of our muscles and bones. Penetrating deeper layers of muscles produces more long-term effects from your Yin Yang yoga class.
Vinyasa/Hatha Yoga Benefits: Yoga for Insomnia, Nervous Disorders and Overall Peace
We breathe deeply into the body, allowing each pose to be experienced like a series of short meditations. This has a calming effect on the nervous system, soothing to the mind, releasing our worries, as we let go of tension, relaxing into the ground. It is for this reason that Yin yoga is frequently recommended to those with nervous disorders, autoimmunity, insomnia, and those with inflammation. Yin energy has the quality of the Moon, transformative and cooling, reducing inflammation, and nurturing to help us sleep peacefully.
This Yin Yang Yoga class is concluded with time for our entire being to fully absorb the benefits of our yoga practice with a rejuvenating deep relaxation practice called Yoga Nidra. You will be compassionately guided you to restore your body, calm your mind, and experience your natural spiritual state. You will leave this class feeling like a whole new person, filled with energy, yet serene and comfy enough to head straight home for a great night’s rest.
Yin Yang Yoga is an intermediate yoga course that requires 6 months of prior yoga practice. Yoga props are provided to support your body where needed, at the same time encouraging muscular development and flexibility.
